A military commander in the mid-Kamakura period. Dates of birth and death unknown. The eldest son of Nagoshi Tomotoki. He played an active role as a close attendant to the fourth shogun, Fujiwara no Yoritsune. He became the governor of Echigo and also served as the province's guardian. In 1246 (Kangen 4), when Hojo Tsunetoki died after handing over power to his younger brother Tokiyori, he allied with the former shogun Yoritsune and plotted to remove Tokiyori, but was instead overtaken by the Tokiyori faction, which sided with the powerful vassals, the Miura and Adachi clans. His younger brother Tokiyuki committed suicide, and Mitsutoki became a monk (with the Buddhist name Renchi) and was forced to live in seclusion in Ema, Izu Province (Palace Disturbances).
