In plant morphology, megaphyll generally refers to the leaves of vascular plants other than the club mosses (one of the four taxonomic groups of ferns). Unlike leaflets, when megaphyll occurs on a stem, a gap called a slit is always formed in the vascular bundle of the stem. In ecology, megaphyll is one of the "leaf shape classes" of Roenkel, which classifies life forms (shapes), and refers to leaves with a leaf area of 18,225 to 164,025 square millimeters. Leaves larger than this are distinguished by the term megaphyll. [Kurita Koro] [Reference items] | | |Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
