A type of burial system that was popular mainly in the late Yayoi period. The burial area is defined by arranging the raised areas of ridges and plateaus into a square. In rare cases, the sides are covered with blocks of stone. The side lengths range from less than 10m to over 30m. They are often clustered together with other burial systems such as pit tombs. There are usually one or several burial facilities within the burial area, and there is quite a bit of evidence that pottery was donated. The types of burial facilities are mostly wooden coffin direct burials and pit tombs, as well as pit-type stone chambers and box-shaped stone coffins.
