A deer-sized antelope that prefers waterside areas. A mammal of the Bovidae family in the order Even-toed ungulates (illustration). It inhabits light and sparse forests near rivers in southeastern Africa. Body length is 180-220 cm, tail length is 22-45 cm, shoulder height is 120-135 cm, and weight is 170-250 kg. Body color is gray-brown, with a slightly lighter ventral side. There is a white oval ring pattern on the rump. The horns, which only males have, are long and bent backwards in a crescent shape.
