Deming Prize - Deming Prize

The award was established in 1951 by the Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers (JUSE) to commemorate the achievements of American statistician Deming in improving quality control in Japanese industry. It is awarded once a year to individuals who have contributed to the practice or theory of quality control, and to companies that have achieved an extremely high level of quality control and have made a great contribution to society. Deming came to Japan in 1950 and introduced statistical quality control to the country.

アメリカの統計学者デミングが日本産業の品質管理向上に残した功績を記念して、1951年（昭和26）に日本科学技術連盟（日科技連）によって制定された賞。品質管理に関する実務や理論に貢献した個人、および品質管理の水準がきわめて高く社会への貢献度の大きな企業に対し、毎年1回与えられる。デミングは1950年に来日し、統計的品質管理を日本に紹介した。
