Hercules - Hercules

It is one of the 48 Ptolemy constellations that can be seen almost directly above the head on summer evenings. A string of faint stars below magnitude 3 draws the upside-down figure of Hercules, the unrivaled hero of Greek mythology. The most noticeable star is the head, α (Alpha), which is also called Ras Algeti. This means "head of the kneeler", and in ancient Greece, this constellation was called "the kneeler", and it is said that the name of Hercules was later linked to this. Also, α is known as a semiregular variable star whose brightness changes from magnitude 3 to 4 in a cycle of about 100 days, but with a telescope, it can be enjoyed as a double star with a magnitude 5 star attached nearby. The highlight of a small telescope is the large globular cluster M13, located around Hercules' waist, which can be seen as a round image with blurred edges even with binoculars.

夏の宵のほとんど頭の真上あたりに見えるプトレマイオスの48星座（トレミー星座）の一つ。3等星以下の暗い星々を連ねて、ギリシア神話で活躍する剛勇無双の大英雄ヘルクレス（ヘラクレス）の姿を逆さまに描き出している。もっとも目につくのは、頭にあたるα(アルファ)星で、この星はラス・アルゲティともよばれている。これは「ひざまずくものの頭」という意味で、かつて古代ギリシアではこの星座は「ひざまずくもの」とよばれており、ヘルクレスの星座名はのちに結び付けられたとされている。また、α星は明るさが100日くらいの周期で3等から4等まで変わる半規則変光星として知られているが、望遠鏡では、すぐそばに5等星がくっついた二重星として楽しめる。小望遠鏡での見ものは、ヘルクレスの腰のあたりにある大球状星団M13で、これは双眼鏡でも縁のぼけた丸い像として見られる。
