A mountain range on the border between Kyoto, Mie, and Nara prefectures. It is a low tectonic plateau with an elevation of around 500 meters, with a north-south axis, and is also called the Yamato Plateau in the south, as it has little relief and is a plateau-like area. The Kizu River flows from east to west in the north, and the valleys of the Hase River and Uda River form the border with the Takami Mountains in the south. The western edge facing the Nara Basin has many mountains rich in historical sites, such as Mt. Wakakusa (Mt. Mikasa) and Mt. Miwa. Part of it is included in Yamato-Aogaki Quasi-National Park. In a broader sense, it includes the Shigaraki Mountains north of the Kizu River on the Shiga Prefecture side.
