A military commander in the Azuchi-Momoyama and early Edo periods. Son of Tani Moriyoshi of Mino. Nicknamed Jintaro, he was later appointed to the rank of Junior Fifth Rank and Dewa no Kami. He served Hideyoshi along with his father Moriyoshi, and in 1578, during the siege of Miki Castle in Harima, he was awarded an additional 6,200 koku of rice for his service in killing his father on the spot. For his service in the siege of Odawara and the Bunroku War, and for his contribution to the construction of Fushimi Castle in 1594, he was awarded 16,000 koku of rice in the Ikagoriyama family of Tanba Province (Ayabe City, Kyoto Prefecture). During the Battle of Sekigahara, he joined the Western Army in the siege of Tanabe Castle, but he switched sides to the Eastern Army early on, and was therefore granted his original territory.
