Italian composer. Also known as Bellini. Born in Catania, Sicily, to a composer grandfather and an organist father, he showed musical talent from an early age. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Naples from 1819 to 1825, where he met Donizetti. His first opera, which was his graduation piece, attracted early attention, and his second work, Bianca and Gernando, premiered in Naples the following year in 1826 and achieved great success. After that, with the help of the excellent librettist Felice Romani (1788-1865), he continued to achieve success, and together with Donizetti, he led the Italian opera world after Rossini. He died of hepatitis at the age of 33. His representative works include "La somnambulista" and "Norma" (both in 1831), which premiered in Milan, and his posthumous work "Puritan" (1835), which was enthusiastically received at its Paris premiere. He also left behind religious songs, songs, and instrumental pieces such as "Concerto for Oboe" (1823). His elegant music influenced opera composers such as Verdi, Wagner, and the Russian Glinka, as well as Chopin, with whom he became friends in Paris. → La Scala → Related topics CallasBelliniSource : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
