Chen Liang

A scholar from the Southern Song Dynasty in China. Born in Yongkang (Yongkang County, Zhejiang Province). His pen name was Tongfu, his title was Ryusen, and his posthumous name was Wenqi. He was a brilliant young man, and enjoyed discussing military strategy. He would write several thousand words in a flash. In 1163, when peace was made between the Song and Jin dynasties, he opposed it and submitted a petition for a revival, but it was ignored. In 1178, he submitted another petition, and Emperor Gwangjong (reigned 1189-1194) was so impressed that he tried to promote him, but he declined and returned to his hometown. In 1193, he passed the first rank of the Jinshi and was awarded the position of Jiankang Prefecture Magistrate, but died the following year in 1194. His academic studies were characterized by governance and benefiting the people, and he was known as the Jigu school or the Yongkang school because he placed emphasis on practical achievements. His works include the 30 volumes of "Ryūsen Bunshū" and the 1 volume of "Ryūsen Shi."

中国、南宋(なんそう)の学者。永康(えいこう)（浙江(せっこう)省永康県）の人。字(あざな)は同甫(どうほ)、号は龍川(りゅうせん)、諡(おくりな)は文毅(ぶんき)。若いころより才気にあふれ、喜んで兵法を談じ、筆をとるとたちどころに数千言の文章を書いたという。1163年、宋と金(きん)との和睦(わぼく)が成立するや、彼はその和睦に反対し、中興論を上奏したが顧みられなかった。1178年ふたたび上奏文を出し、感動した光宗（在位1189〜1194）は大いに抜擢(ばってき)しようとしたが、辞退して郷里に帰っている。1193年進士第一位に及第し、簽書(せんしょ)建康府判官を授けられるが、翌1194年没している。学問の特徴は経世済民にあり、もっぱら事功に重点を置いたため事功学派、永康学派といわれる。著書に『龍川文集』30巻、『龍川詞』1巻がある。
