[Flowers of angiosperms]
In the narrowest sense, flowers are limited to angiosperms. From the outside, a flower consists of a calyx made up of sepals, a corolla made up of petals, stamens and pistils that are directly involved in sexual reproduction, and a receptacle to which these are attached (Figure 1). The calyx and corolla are collectively called the perianth, and in cases where there is no morphological difference between the two, such as in tulips, the calyx is called the outer perianth and the corolla is called the inner perianth.
