Ashura Dance Style Sword Dance - Ashura Dance Experience

...A type of Nembutsu dance (dancing Nembutsu) found in the former Nanbu territories of Aomori and Iwate prefectures, and in the former Date domain territories of Iwate and Miyagi prefectures. In Aomori prefecture, it is called Keibai and dancers wear cockscomb-like armor, but it is thought to have originally originated from the incantation Henbai to stomp on evil spirits. There is a legend that En no Gyoja started it in the past to popularize Nembutsu, and it is a dance based on Shugendo, which was passed down by mountain ascetics, and dancers jump and stomp powerfully while switching between swords, sacred wands, and fans.
