Austrian meteorologist. After graduating from the University of Vienna in 1900, he joined the Vienna Central Meteorological Observatory. From 1910 to 1917, he became a professor at the University of Innsbruck, and in 1917, he became director of the Vienna Central Meteorological Observatory and a professor at the University of Vienna. He studied mathematics and physics at university, and began researching meteorology after joining the observatory. He worked to find a theoretical explanation for the weather, and also conducted research into calculating future weather maps. In 1916, he published Dynamische Meteorologie (Meteorological Mechanics).

オーストリアの気象学者。1900年ウィーン大学卒業後,ウィーン中央気象台に入る。10‐17年インスブルック大学教授,17年ウィーン中央気象台長兼ウィーン大学教授となる。大学では数学と物理学を学び,気象台に入ってから気象学の研究を始めた。気象を理論的に解明することに努力し,将来の天気図を計算によって求める研究も行っている。1916年には,《気象力学Dynamische Meteorologie》を出版した。
