1876‐1930 Austrian meteorologist. After graduating from the University of Vienna in 1900, he joined the Vienna Central Meteorological Observatory. From 1910 to 1917, he became a professor at the University of Innsbruck, and in 1917, he became director of the Vienna Central Meteorological Observatory and a professor at the University of Vienna. He studied mathematics and physics at university, and began researching meteorology after joining the observatory. He worked to find a theoretical explanation for the weather, and also conducted research into calculating future weather maps.
