A military man in the final days of the Roman Empire. After executing Stilicho in 408, he was appointed commander of the African army. When the Visigoths approached Rome in 409-410 and established a rival emperor, he was appointed consul in 413 as a reward for remaining loyal to Emperor Honorius, but in the same year he rebelled. He led a fleet to land near Rome, but was defeated by the government forces and fled to Carthage, where he was executed. The motive for this rebellion is unclear, but it is speculated that he felt his life was in danger as the executioner of Stilicho, when General Constantius, a supporter of Stilicho, executed Olympius.

ローマ帝国末期の軍人。408年にスティリコを処刑したのち，アフリカ軍司令官に任じられる。409‐410年西ゴートがローマ市に迫り対立帝を立てた際に，ホノリウス帝への忠誠を貫いた報奨として，413年のコンスルに任じられたが，その年に謀反。艦隊を率いてローマの近くに上陸したが政府軍に敗れ，カルタゴへ逃れたがそこで処刑された。この謀反の動機は定かではないが，スティリコびいきの将軍コンスタンティウスによるオリュンピウス処刑に，スティリコ処刑者たる彼が身の危険を感じたからとも推測されている。
