...areas in the upper atmosphere where there is a high amount of ozone. They were discovered independently by M. J. Chappuis (France) and W. N. Hartley (Ireland) between 1880 and 1882. They are distributed at an altitude of about 20 to 25 km above ground level and have a thickness of about 20 km.
