Mouse Pure Land - Nezumi Jodo

Japanese: 鼠浄土 - ねずみじょうど

Also known as "The Rolling Rice Ball" or "The Mouse Pounding Rice Cakes." It is a story about an old man who is invited to the Mouse Kingdom, where he is given treasures in return for giving food such as rice balls and mochi to mice. The old man next door tries to imitate him, but fails. It is a folk tale thought to have originated from trade with foreign lands. The story of receiving money from a demon's gambling game in return for giving food to Jizo is called Jizo Jodo.

〈おむすびころりん〉〈鼠の餅(もち)つき〉ともいう。ネズミに握り飯や餅などの食物をやった礼にネズミの国に招かれて宝物をもらう爺(じじい)の話。隣の爺がまねして失敗する。異郷との交易から生まれたと考えられる昔話。地蔵に食物をやった礼に鬼の博奕(ばくち)の金をもらう話は地蔵浄土という。
