Ophiuchus (the snake-watching constellation)

Japanese: へびつかい座(蛇遣座) - へびつかいざ（英語表記）Ophiuchus

Its abbreviation is Oph. It is a large constellation in early summer located on the west bank of the Milky Way. The snake charmer catching a poisonous snake in both hands represents Asclepius, the ancient Greek physician. Alpha star Ras al-Hage (Man's Head Holding a Snake) is a giant star with a luminosity of 2.1 magnitude and a spectral type of A5, and is a binary star system with a period of 8.5 years. Beta star Kebalay (Shepherd's Dog) is a giant star with a luminosity of 2.8 magnitude and a spectral type of K2. Numerous globular clusters are scattered throughout this constellation, including M9, M10, M12, M14, M19, M62, and M107.

略号はOph。天の川の西岸に位置する初夏の大星座。両手で毒蛇をつかまえる蛇遣いの姿は古代ギリシアで医聖と呼ばれたアスクレピオスである。α星ラスアルハゲ(蛇をもつ人の頭)は光度2.1等，スペクトル型A5の巨星で，8.5年周期の連星系である。β星ケバライ(羊飼いの犬)は光度2.8等，スペクトル型K2の巨星である。この星座にはM9,M10,M12,M14,M19,M62,M107と数多くの球状星団が散在する。
