Mr. Takagi

Japanese: 高木氏 - たかぎうじ

(1) A medieval samurai family whose main residence was Takagi Village, Saga County, Hizen Province (present-day Saga City). It is believed that the descendants of Fujiwara Takaie settled in this area and took the surname Takagi, but this is unclear. In the late Heian period, the family expanded its influence by holding positions such as government officials of Dazaifu, local government officials in Hizen Province, and Osho-ryo-shi, and is said to include powerful local clans in Kyushu such as the Kusano, Ryuzoji, Kozuma, and Kitano families. During the Genpei War, the family played an active role on the side of the Minamoto clan, and after the establishment of the Kamakura Shogunate, in 1186 (Bun'ei 2), the head of the Takagi family was appointed as the land steward of Kannabimine in Fukamizo Kitago, Saga County (present-day Yamato Town, Saga County, Saga Prefecture), and Takagi Sueie was appointed as the land steward of Ryuzoji Village in Ozu Togo, Saga County (present-day Saga City), and became Kamakura vassals.

(1)肥前国佐嘉郡高木村(現，佐賀市)を本貫地とする中世武家。藤原隆家の子孫がこの地に土着して高木姓を称したとされているが不詳。平安時代末期には大宰府の府官，肥前国在庁官人，押領使などを兼帯して勢力を伸張しており，九州における有力在地土豪である草野氏，竜造寺氏，上妻氏，北野氏などもその一族とされている。源平争乱期には源氏方として活躍し，鎌倉幕府成立後，1186年(文治2)高木宗家は佐嘉郡深溝北郷内甘南備（かんなび）峯(現，佐賀県佐賀郡大和町)の地頭職，高木季家は同郡小津東郷内竜造寺村(現，佐賀市)の地頭職に補任され，鎌倉御家人となった。
