...The two-stringed fiddle with a hemispherical resonating body made from coconut shell or burrs is called rabāb al-mughanni (musician's fiddle). The Indonesian fiddle, which has the same structure as the latter, is called rebāb (illustration). The second type is the rabāb (illustration) used in Andalusian music among the Arabs of North Africa, which has a different structure, a short neck, a boat-shaped body, and two strings.
