Bedlington terrier

Japanese: ベドリントン･テリア[種]（英語表記）Bedlington terrier

A domestic dog originating from England. Its name comes from Bedlington, a town in the northeast corner of England where it originated. It was created in the early 19th century by incorporating the blood of the Dandie Dinmont and Whippet into an old-style terrier breed. Its distinctive features include long ears not seen in other terrier breeds, hair on the top of the head, a high "Roman" nose, and an arched lower back similar to that of a Whippet. In the past, it was used in dog fights as a bet by workers, and it had a fiery temperament.

原産地がイギリスの家庭犬。名称は，原産地イングランド北東端の町ベドリントンに由来し，古い型のテリア種を基礎にダンディ･ディンモントDandie Dinmontやホイペットの血液を取り入れ，19世紀初期に作られた。特徴は他のテリア種に見られない長い耳，頭頂の被毛，鼻梁（びりよう）の高い“ローマ鼻”，ホイペットに似たアーチ形の腰部などである。古くは労働者たちの賭の対象として闘犬勝負に使われ，気性は激しかった。
