A ballet consisting of four acts. Libretto by A. Benoist and I. Stravinsky. Music by Stravinsky. Choreography by M. Fokine. Set by Benoist. It premiered in 1911 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris by S. Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, and starred V. Nijinsky, T. Karsavina, E. Cecchetti, and others. The story is about three dolls, a clown named Petrushka, a ballerina, and a Moor, who fall in love and become jealous, causing a commotion until the Moor kills Petrushka. It is a masterpiece by Fokine, and one of Nijinsky's best roles. It premiered in Japan in 1950 by the Komaki Ballet Company.
