A former town in Yama District, located in the center of the Aizu Basin in northwest Fukushima Prefecture. Shiokawa, the center of the town, is a former river port on the Nippashi River and runs along the Ban'etsu West Line. Rice is the main crop, and vegetables and flowers are also cultivated. In January 2006, it was incorporated into Kitakata City along with Yamato Town, Atsushiokano Village, and Takasato Village in Yama District. Area 46.24 km2 . Population 10,711 (2003).
