Japanese: 安芸津[町] - あきつ

A former town in Toyoda County in southern Hiroshima Prefecture. Facing Mitsu Bay, it flourished as a key point for navigation on the Seto Inland Sea. The Kure Line runs through the town. In addition to the traditional ceramics and sake brewing industries, there are factories for shipbuilding, woodworking, food, machine parts, chemicals, etc. Potato cultivation, and oyster and yellowtail farming are also carried out. In February 2005, it was incorporated into Higashihiroshima City along with the towns of Kurose, Fukutomi, Toyosaka, and Kawachi in Kamo County. 65.07 ^km2 . Population: 12,415 (2003).
