Safety current

Japanese: 安全電流 - あんぜんでんりゅう（英語表記）safety current

The maximum current that can flow through an electric wire. It is also called the allowable current. When electric current flows, Joule heat is generated, causing the temperature of the electric wire or electrical device to rise. If this current exceeds a certain level, actual damage such as insulation breakdown or combustion can occur, so there is a limit to the current that can be practically passed upstream. The safe current varies depending on the material and thickness of the electric wire, the type of insulation, the ambient temperature, the heat dissipation conditions, etc.

電線などに流しうる最大の電流。許容電流ともいう。電流が流れるとジュール熱が発生して，電線や電気装置の温度が上がり，これがある程度以上になると，絶縁破壊，燃焼などの実害が生じるので，実用上流しうる電流には限度がある。安全電流は電線の材質，太さ，絶縁物の種類，周囲温度，熱の放散状況などによって異なる。
