Morning glory city - Morning glory city

The morning glory market is held on the festival day of Kishibojin Shrine in Iriya, Taito Ward, Tokyo. It became especially popular in the Meiji era, and even today it is held for three days starting from July 6th, from around 4am until late at night. The most popular time is at night, but in the past, it was said that morning glories were worthless after the sun had risen. A variety of morning glories, including Kidachi, Ukon, Andon-zukuri, small bowls, and other unusual and large-flowered varieties, are lined up from the shrine grounds to Iriya Street. Along with the ground cherries at Asakusa Kannon and the plant market at Fuji Shrine in Komagome, it has become a seasonal feature of Tokyo.
