Mr. Uemura

Japanese: 植村氏 - うえむらうじ

A feudal lord in the early modern period. A descendant of the Toki clan of Mino, he is said to have later lived in Kamimura, Totomi Province. He had been a fudai (hereditary) of Tokugawa Ieyasu's grandfather, Kiyoyasu. In 1640 (Kan'ei 17), during the time of Iemasa, he was given 25,000 koku of land in Takatori, Yamato. After two divisions of the land, from 1687 (Jokyo 4) onwards, he was given 20,500 koku. In the late early modern period, Ietoshi was the soshaban (official auditor), and his son Ienaga served as the soshaban, temples and shrines magistrate, young councilor, and senior councilor, and his stipend was increased to 25,000 koku. The head of the family was generally appointed as Dewa no Kami (Lord of Dewa), with a rank of Junior Fifth Rank. After the Meiji Restoration, he was made a viscount. [Omori Eiko]

近世大名。美濃の土岐氏の出で，のち遠江国上村に住するという。徳川家康の祖父清康以来の譜代。1640年(寛永17)家政のとき，大和高取2万5000石となる。2度の分知により，87年(貞享4)以降2万500石。近世後期の家利は奏者番，その子家長は奏者番，寺社奉行，若年寄，老中格などを務め，2万5000石に加増。当主はおおむね従五位下出羽守に叙任。維新後は子爵。【大森映子】
