Basho - Basho

Japanese: 芭蕉 - ばしょう
Basho - Basho
[1] 〘Noun〙 (Formerly "hassho")① A perennial plant of the Musaceae family. It is said to be native to China and is planted in gardens for ornamental purposes. It grows to about four meters tall. The leaves are arranged in two rows, with several on each side, on long stalks, and overlap at the base to form a sheath. The leaf blade is an oblong shape about 1.5 meters long, with parallel veins on both sides of the midvein. In summer, flower stalks grow from the leaf axils, and pale yellow irregular flowers grow in spikes. The flowers have an upper lip made of three outer tepals and two inner tepals fused together, and a lower lip made of one inner tepal, and store nectar at the base. The bracts are yellowish brown and fall off when they bloom. They do not bear much fruit in Japan, but when ripe, they produce banana-shaped fruits about six centimeters long. Cloth and paper are made from the fiber of the leaves, and the leaves and roots are boiled to make a diuretic and antipyretic. Chinese name: gancho, basho. Niwa-migusa. Season: Autumn ▼Basho Flower Season: Summer ※Family tradition (around 760) Vol. 1 "Basho in the World, Humanity in Dacheng" [Dou Gong - Poem about a Hermit Visiting Misfortune] ② Name of a crest. A stylized version of the leaves of ①. There are various variations, such as Embracing Basho, One Folded Basho, and Basho-ba. [2][1] Noh play. Third piece. Various schools. Made by Konparu Zenchiku. A monk from Xiangshui in the state of Chu was reciting the Lotus Sutra day and night when a woman came and listened to the sutra, praising its power to enable even plants and trees to attain Buddhahood, and then disappeared, revealing that she was the spirit of Basho. That night, the spirit of Basho appeared in the monk's dream in the form of a woman, and danced while praising the Buddhist teaching that plants and trees can attain Buddhahood. When the monk woke up, all he could hear was the sound of the wind rustling the banana leaves. [2] ⇒ Matsuo Basho (Matsuo Basho) [Etymology] In the olden days, it was in the form of Haseo, but as seen in "Twenty Volumes of the Wamyosho-20" (Basho Hatsuseiohha) and "Iroha Jiruisho" (Basho (Haseu) Haseoha," it seems that the onomatopoeic form Haseo and the Japanese translation of Haseo coexisted. This is the same change as when Seu (簫) and Au (fusuma) became Seo and Ao.
