...In the Kyoto area, bamboo shoots are fitted with wooden frames to make square bamboo, which are used for alcove pillars, etc. It is also widely used for ornamental purposes, and the horticultural variety Kinmei Moso bamboo (cv. Nabeshimana) has green vertical stripes of various sizes on both the culms and rhizomes of a yellowish-white background. In Kurume, it is a natural monument.
