…Froumentios, who introduced Christianity to Ethiopia in the first half of the 4th century, was later ordained a bishop by Athanasius, Bishop of Alexandria. From then on, it became customary for Egyptian monks to become Abūna (head of the Ethiopian Church). After the Council of Chalcedon, they became Monophysite, but the exact circumstances of that time are unknown. …
