Vesuvianite (English spelling)

Japanese: ベスビアナイト（英語表記）vesuvianite

Also called vesuvianite. A rock-forming mineral. Its chemical composition is Ca ₁₀ (Mg,Fe) ₂ Al ₄ Si ₉ O ₃₄ (OH,F) ₄ and it belongs to the tetragonal crystal system. It often appears as beautiful euhedral columnar crystals elongated along the c- axis in yellow, green or brown. It has a Mohs hardness of 7, specific gravity of 3.3-3.5, and incomplete cleavage at {110}. It appears in limestone that has been subjected to contact metamorphism, but is rarely found in rodingite associated with basic-ultramassic rocks and alkaline plutonic rocks. In Japan, Misato is found in the Chichibu Mine in Saitama Prefecture.

ベスブ石ともいう。造岩鉱物の一つ。化学組成はCa₁₀(Mg,Fe)₂Al₄Si₉O₃₄(OH,F)₄で正方晶系に属する。黄色，緑色または褐色のc軸に伸びた美しい自形の柱状結晶で出現することが多い。モース硬度7，比重3.3～3.5，｛110｝に不完全なへき開がある。接触変成作用を受けた石灰岩に出現するが，まれに塩基性‐超塩基性岩に伴うロディンジャイトやアルカリ深成岩に含まれる。日本では埼玉県秩父鉱山から美晶が産する。
