Ichiro Oya

Actor. His real name is the same. Born in Asakusa, Tokyo. At the age of 14, he became a disciple of the Shinpa actor Fujii Rokusuke and made his debut at the Masago Theater. After that, he moved around to various local theaters, but in 1924 (Taisho 13), he was recognized by Ii Yoho and joined the Tokyo Shinpa school, where he established himself as a supporting actor. In 1938 (Showa 13), he formed the New Shinpa with Hanayagi Shotaro, and his dignified acting was an essential element of Shinpa. In addition to playing Hanayagi's partner in "Naniwa Onna" and "Furyu Fukagawa Uta," his hit roles included Minokichi in "Meiji Ichidai Onna" and Principal Odera in "Odera School."

俳優。本名同じ。東京・浅草生まれ。14歳で新派俳優藤井六輔(ろくすけ)の門下となり、真砂(まさご)座で初舞台を踏む。以後地方の芝居を転々としたが、1924年（大正13）伊井蓉峰(ようほう)に認められ東京の新派に入り、脇役(わきやく)としての地位を築いた。38年（昭和13）花柳(はなやぎ)章太郎とともに新生新派を結成、風格のある演技は新派に不可欠のものであった。『浪花女(なにわおんな)』『風流深川唄(うた)』で花柳の相手役を勤めたほか、当り役に『明治一代女』の己之吉(みのきち)、『大寺(おおでら)学校』の大寺校長などがある。
