A lidded jar decorated with a cylindrical hole (beak) on the shoulder. Notable examples are the celadon wares made at the Yuezhou and Longquan kilns of the Chinese Song dynasty. The vessels have an egg-shaped body and a five-layered body divided into five sections, and are decorated with five beaks on the shoulder. The beaks are beveled, and the body features lotus petals and arabesque patterns carved or stamped. It is thought that this was first used as a grave goods in the early Northern Song dynasty. Meanwhile, the multi-beaked jars seen in Japanese sansai and hai-yu are thought to be of a different lineage, continuing the lineage of sueki komoshi jars.
