Beijing Mission

During the Qing Dynasty in China, a group of missionaries was sent by the Russian government to spread Russian Orthodox Christianity to Russians living in Beijing. The Treaty of Nerchinsk in 1689 (28th year of the Kangxi era) meant that Russians who had fled to China or been captured in the war at Albazin did not have to be repatriated, so the Qing government had them live in the North House of Oros in the northeast corner of Beijing. In order to support the Orthodox faith of these Russians, in 1715 the Russian government, with the special consent of the Qing government, sent a party led by Archimandrite Hilarion Rezhaisky to Beijing.

中国，清代に北京在住のロシア人にロシア正教を伝道するためにロシア政府から派遣された宣教師団。1689年(康熙28)のネルチンスク条約により，それまでに清国に逃亡したり，アルバジンでの戦争で捕虜とされたりしたロシア人は本国へ送還しなくてよいことになったので，清朝政府は彼らを北京の北東隅のオロス北館に集住せしめた。これらロシア人の正教信仰を支えるため，1715年ロシア政府は清朝政府の特別の同意を得て掌院(アルヒマンドリト)イラリオン･レジャイスキーの一行を北京に派遣した。
