Kahoku [town] - Kahoku
A former town in Kamomoto County in northern Kumamoto Prefecture. It borders Fukuoka Prefecture across the Chikuhi Mountains, and National Route 3 runs through it. Most of the area is mountainous, and cedar wood is produced and sawn. Rice, watermelons, vegetables, chestnuts, and tea are also cultivated, and the town is known for its Kahoku tea. In January 2005, it was incorporated into Yamaga City along with Kikuka Town, Kamo Town, and Kao Town in Kamo County. 86.17 km2 . 5,402 people (2003).
