King of Navarre in the northern part of the Iberian Peninsula. Reigned from 1000 to 1035. Commonly known as Sancho the Great. He accepted the Cluny Reformation (Cluny Abbey) and protected the Santiago pilgrimage (Santiago de Compostela), thus strengthening relations with the Pyrenees and beyond, which had been scarce until then. At the same time, he controlled the area from the central Pyrenees through Castile to Leon, and was so powerful that his contemporaries called him the "King of Iberia." Although he was an excellent warrior, he showed no enthusiasm for the Reconquista and instead focused on domestic affairs.

イベリア半島北部のナバラ国王。在位1000‐35年。サンチョ大王と通称される。クリュニー改革運動(クリュニー修道院)を受け入れ，サンチアゴ巡礼(サンチアゴ･デ･コンポステラ)を保護するなどそれまで希薄だったピレネー以北との交流を密にする一方，イベリア内ではピレネー中部からカスティリャを経てレオンまでをその支配下に置き，同時代人から〈イベリア王〉と呼ばれるほどの威勢を誇った。優れた武人だったが，国土回復戦争(レコンキスタ)には熱意を示さず，内政に専念した。
