A library in Beijing, China. Its predecessor was the Jingshi Library (technically, the Faculty Library), which was established in 1909 (the 1st year of the Xuantong era) at the request of Zhang Zhidong, and was supervised by Miao Juansun. In 1912, Jiang Han became director and opened the library to the public, so this year is now considered the year of its founding. In 1928, it was renamed the National Beiping Library, and the following year it merged with the Beiping Beihai Library, and in 1931 it moved to its current location on the west coast of the Beihai Sea. After liberation, it became the Beijing Library, and in 1982 it officially became the National Library of China. It contains the "National Beiping Library Supplementary Books" and the "Beijing Library Supplementary Books". Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
