American amateur golfer. His real name was Robert Tyre Jones, Jr. He was a prodigy who won 13 tournaments in eight years after winning his first U.S. Open in 1923 while studying. He won the U.S. Open four times and the British Open three times, and in 1930 he achieved a Grand Slam by monopolizing the four major titles of the U.S. Amateur, U.S. Open, British Amateur, and British Open. His elegant swing, modest personality, and numerous victories over professional golfers are the pride of Americans.
