Japanese: サナダヒモムシ - さなだひもむし

A gigantic, nemertetan worm of the family Baseodiscus in the class Acanthomorpha. It is found south of Hachijo Island and the Kii Peninsula, and lives under boulders in the intertidal zone. Its body is ribbon-shaped and flattened dorsally and ventrally. When fully stretched out while alive, it can reach a length of up to 8m, and even specimens are 40-50cm long. Its body width is 4-5mm. Its head is round, with many small eyespots lined up along its edge. There is also a brown transverse band on the posterior half of the head. The neck is deeply constricted, and a large mouth opens on the ventral surface behind it. The body is white, with a single broad brown band running from the transverse band behind the mouth along the dorsal line and ventral midline over the entire body.

無針綱バセオディスクス科のひも形動物で巨大な体になるヒモムシ。八丈島，紀伊半島以南に分布し，潮間帯の転石の下にすむ。体はリボン状で背腹に扁平。生きているときによくのびたときは長さ8mにもなり，標本でも40～50cmはある。体幅は4～5mm。頭部は丸く，その縁には小さい眼点が多数並んでいる。また頭部の後半分には褐色の横条帯がある。頸部（けいぶ）は深くくびれ，大きな口がその後方の腹面に開いている。体は白く，口の後方にある横条帯から背中線と腹中線に沿って1本の幅広い褐色の帯が全身に走っている。
