An old town in the central eastern part of Sado Island, Sado County, Niigata Prefecture. The northwestern part occupies a corner of the Kuninaka Plain. Rice cultivation is thriving. A bus service runs from Ryotsu in Sado City. The town produces fruit trees and forest products, and also engages in fishing. It is home to Hase Temple. In March 2004, Ryotsu City merged with Sado County's Aikawa Town, Sawada Town, Kanai Town, Niiho Village, Hamo Town, Mano Town, Ogi Town, and Akadomari Village to form Sado City. 66.41 km2.
