Prime minister of the Western Han Dynasty in China. His pen name was Shaoqing. He was from Lu (Qufu, Shandong Province). He was a prison guard in Lu, but he rescued Bai Ji (Hei Qi), who later became Emperor Xuan, from prison and contributed to his accession to the throne, which earned him the trust of the people and led to his position as prime minister. He is famous for not criticizing peasant fights when he saw them, and for learning about seasonal changes by observing cows panting on the road in spring, and foreseeing disasters. He was praised as an outstanding prime minister who did not get hung up on small things, was well-versed in the greater good, and made an effort to praise the good of those who were guilty, and did not boast about himself.

中国，前漢の丞相。字は少卿。魯(山東省曲阜)の人。魯の獄吏であったが，のちに宣帝となった病己（へいき）を獄中から救出し，その即位に貢献したことにより，信任を得て丞相の位についた。百姓の乱闘は見てもとがめず，春に道行く牛があえぐのを見て四季の変調を知り，災害を予見しようとした話は有名である。小事にこだわらず，大義に通じ，罪ある者もつとめてその善を賞揚し，みずからは誇ることのない卓越した丞相として誉れ高い。
