A gathering of literary figures in the late Meiji period. It began in the early 1900s when Tayama Katai, Kunikida Doppo and others visited Yanagita Kunio's residence in Ushigome Kagacho, Tokyo to discuss literature. From January 1902, when the meeting took place at the Western restaurant Kairakutei in Kojicho, the venue was set up outside and continued. The exchanges between the young literary generation, including Kambara Ariake, Shimazaki Toson, Oguri Fuyō and Yanagawa Shunyō, were largely due to the momentum of a new era and the way they influenced each other. After moving from Seifūtei under Akagi Shrine in Ushigome and a yakitori restaurant in Kishimojin, Zōshigaya, to the French restaurant Ryudoken in Azabu Ryudocho in November 1904, the venue became the regular meeting place and the name was decided.
