Miyamasu - Miyamasu

Japanese:
Miyamasu - Miyamasu

Dates of birth and death unknown. A Noh actor and Noh playwright from the early Muromachi period. He is thought to have lived around Eikyou (1429-41), but many details are unknown. From the mid- to late Muromachi period, his troupe seems to have been merged into the Yamato Sarugaku group, and many actors named Miyamasu. His works are said to include the unique side-noh play "Himuro," "Kurama Tengu," "Eboshiori," and "Settai," all related to Minamoto no Yoshitsune, and "Chobuku Soga" and "Yochi Soga," which are about the Soga brothers. He is also thought to have written "Sakahoko," a story about the creation of the country, "Houkazo," which depicts medieval customs as they are, and "Genpuku Soga" and "Kosode Soga," which are in the Soga series. He was a Noh playwright who specialized in Noh plays featuring heroes of the people and rich in local color, and it is clear that he had a different philosophy from the mysterious Noh plays of Zeami.
