A city in the province of Massa Carrara in Tuscany, in central-west Italy. It is located about 100 km northwest of Florence. It is a railway terminus and has a thriving marble industry. The famous Carrara marble is processed in the area and exported to the world from Marina di Carrara. There are also cathedrals from the 12th to 14th centuries and a marble processing school.
