…Inigo Jones, the greatest architect of the time, also studied in Italy twice, where he became familiar with the architectural methods of classical antiquity and the works of Palladio, and acquired a clear and elegant style of work. After returning to England, he became the Royal Commissioner for Architecture and became the founder of the English Renaissance. Queen's House in Greenwich, which is now the National Maritime Museum, was built by him for Queen Anne, and has a symmetrical form based on the Italian villa style.
