? - 396 BCE Ruler of the Wei dynasty in the early Warring States period of China. Reigned 445-396 BC. Son of Huanzi, his name was Shi (some say Du). During his reign, Wei was ranked among the feudal lords along with Zhao and Han. He studied under Confucius's disciple Zixia, treated Duan Ganmu as a guest, appointed Ximen Bao as the governor of Ye to carry out irrigation projects, and sought to increase agricultural production with the advice of the lawyer Li Si. He also appointed Wu Qi and Le Yang as generals to expand his territory, and implemented policies to enrich the country and strengthen its military, making Wei the most powerful state in the early Warring States period.
