A city in the northwest of North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. Located at the foot of Joryeong in the Sobaek Mountains, it was a strategic point connecting Yeongnam (Gyeongsang Province) and Seoul, but in modern times the main transportation route shifted to Chupungryeong, a little further south. Rice, wheat, foxtail millet, tobacco, paper mulberry, and other crops are produced in the area. The city is rich in underground resources, producing anthracite, graphite, limestone, tungsten, fluorite, and more. In addition to the Mungyeong Cement Plant, there is the Eunseong Coal Mine nearby. 韓国,慶尚北道の北西部にある都市。小白山脈中の鳥嶺の麓に位置し,嶺南(慶尚道)とソウルを結ぶ要衝であったが,近代にはやや南の秋風嶺に主要交通路が移った。付近からは米,麦,アワ,タバコ,コウゾなどを産する。地下資源が豊富で無煙炭,黒鉛,石灰石,タングステン,ホタル石などの産がある。聞慶セメント工場のほか付近に恩城炭鉱がある。7万1000人(2005)。
