…中流部は阿武隈高地を刻む峡谷をなし，特にJR磐越東線川前駅付近から下流約10kmは，河床の花コウ岩が露出して滝や淵が続く。江田信号所付近には，江戸時代に平藩主が駕籠を止めて滝見をしたといわれる籠場の滝や，左岸の支流江田川の背戸峨廊（せとがろう）と呼ばれる奇岩や滝が続く渓谷があり，初夏や紅葉の季節には観光客が多い。この付近一帯は水石山(735m)，閼伽井（あかい）岳(605m)とともに夏井川渓谷県立自然公園に指定されている。…
