Based on the author's observations and experiences in pleasure quarters across the country over more than 30 years, this work details the necessary knowledge and etiquette for pleasure quarters. It explains the unique language used in pleasure quarters, explains the etiquette of courtesans and guests, introduces the origins and reality of pleasure quarters all over the country, provides explanations of the music and letters that take place in pleasure quarters, includes a family tree of courtesans, tells anecdotes about famous courtesans, and even explains the sexual customs of women outside of pleasure quarters. It is truly a book that should be called an encyclopedia of pleasure quarters and sexual customs. This book not only influenced the creation of Saikaku's erotic works, but is also highly valuable as a study of manners and customs, and is currently often used by researchers as a source that provides a wide-ranging and detailed understanding of the world of entertainment up until the Genroku period (1688-1704).

遊女評判記。18巻。藤本箕山(きざん)（1628―1704）作。1678年（延宝6）ごろの成立。30年以上に及ぶ諸国の遊里での著者の見聞や体験に基づき、遊里に関して必要な知識や作法を詳述した作品。遊里での独特のことばを解説し、遊女や遊客の作法を説き、全国各地の遊里の由来、内実を紹介し、遊里で行われる音曲や手紙について説明を加え、遊女の系統図を付し、著名な遊女たちの逸話を伝え、さらには、遊里以外の女たちの性風俗の解説にまで及ぶ。まさに遊里、性風俗百科全書とも称すべき書である。本書は、西鶴(さいかく)の好色物の成立に影響を与えているだけではなく、風俗研究書としても高い価値をもち、現在、元禄(げんろく)期（1688～1704）までの遊興の世界を幅広く詳細に知ることができるものとして、研究者の間で利用される機会も多い。
