Frock coat

Frock coat
The most common coat-type outerwear worn by European men from the late 18th century to the late 19th century. It was considered the typical civilian uniform, but after the late 19th century when suits became popular, it gradually became formal wear, and after World War I, it has almost disappeared today, except for some ceremonial wear. In the very early days, the term frock was used to refer to a loose-fitting knee-length outerwear of the same type as the close-fitting just-cole, and the term frock was generally used to refer to loose clothing. Later, with the adoption of long trousers, the term came to refer to a double-breasted outerwear with a waistline and a skirt-like hanging part, which became the typical frock coat. In Japan, it became the formal Western clothing for men from the Meiji to Taisho periods, and early military uniforms basically followed this style.
