Japanese: 児童権利宣言 - じどうけんりせんげん（英語表記）Declaration of the Rights of the Child

A declaration to protect the human rights of children. It is also known as the Universal Declaration of the Rights of the Child or the Declaration on the Rights of the Child. It was adopted at the 14th United Nations General Assembly on November 20, 1959. It is based on the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and consists of a preamble and 10 articles. It confirms that children who are immature in both body and mind should be guaranteed healthy development, happiness, and social rights. As practical guarantees, it proclaims principles such as non-discrimination and equality, social security, upbringing with love and understanding, primary education, medical treatment and education for physically and mentally disabled children, and protection from neglect, abuse, and exploitation (→child abuse). Japan passed a resolution of support for the Convention on the Rights of the Child at a plenary session of the House of Councilors in December 1959. (→Convention on the Rights of the Child)

子供の人権を守るための宣言。世界児童人権宣言，児童の権利に関する宣言ともいう。1959年11月20日，第14回国連総会で採択された。国連憲章と世界人権宣言に基づくもので，前文と 10ヵ条からなる。心身ともに未成熟な子供が，健全な成育と幸福と社会的諸権利を保障されるべきことを確認したもの。その実質的保障として，無差別の平等，社会保障，愛情と理解のもとでの養育，初等教育，心身障害児の治療と教育，放任や虐待や搾取からの保護（→児童虐待）などの諸原則をうたっている。日本は，1959年12月に参議院本会議で支持を決議した。（→児童の権利に関する条約）
